LGBTQ+ History Month

The Division of Institutional Equity joins the Pride center for LGBTQIA2+, Women's, Gender & Equity Center, oSTEM and our many campus community members in recognizing and celebrating LGBTQ+ Month.

National LGBTQ+ History Month is observed each October in the United States to celebrate the histories, contributions, and cultural diversity of lesbian, gay, bigender, bisexual, transgender, queer, and allied communities. This month, the Division of Institutional Equity invites you to engage further through our “Read, Watch, Listen, Participate” list to celebrate, connect, and explore.

UMBC LGBTQ+ Oral History Project: A student-driven digital archive that documents and preserves the lived experiences of queer individuals at UMBC and across Baltimore.
Led by Dr. Kate Drabinski, student interviewers collect diverse, intergenerational stories focusing on campus life, local activism, and queer performance history.
Housed within UMBC's Special Collections, the initiative transforms these interviews into public resources, podcasts, and zines to keep regional LGBTQ+ history alive.
