Building Bridges Across Difference: A Dialogue for Every Day

Session 2: Understanding Identity in Community

Wednesday, October 15, 2025 · 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM

Each of us brings a unique set of identities to our roles on campus, some are visible, while others are less so. This session uses an identity chart activity to explore how our identities influence our experiences, relationships, and sense of belonging at UMBC. Together, we’ll build a shared understanding of power, privilege, and difference, and explore what each of us can do about it at UMBC.

This is a "lunch and learn" event, meaning we encourage you to enjoy your lunch during the meeting!

This series is open for full participation by all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or any other protected category under applicable federal law, state law, and the University's nondiscrimination policy.

An image with the title "BUILDING BRIDGES ACROSS DIFFERENCE: A DIALOGUE FOR EVERY DAY SERIES". Below the title are three separate photos showing groups of people engaged in conversation. The first photo shows three men, two of whom are Black and one of whom is white, sitting in a circle and talking. The second photo shows three women of different ethnicities sitting and talking. The third photo shows a man and a woman, one of whom appears to be a Black man and the other a hijabi woman, sitting at a table with other people in what looks like a meeting or a classroom. At the bottom left of the image is the UMBC logo. To the right of the logo, there is text that says, "Division of Institutional Equity" and below that, "CENTER FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE DIALOGUE".
